Is BBL the same as IPL?
BBL is the most advanced form of IPL technology. While conventional IPL devices deliver light in a less controlled manner, Sciton's BBL platform uses a more sophisticated delivery system with precise wavelength filtering, superior cooling, and the HERO upgrade that dramatically increases energy output and speed. BBL consistently outperforms standard IPL devices in both efficacy and patient comfort.
Is BBL HEROic safe for my skin tone?
BBL is most effective and safest for lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick types I–III). For medium skin tones (type IV), it can still be performed with appropriate settings adjustments. BBL is generally not recommended for darker skin tones (V–VI) due to the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Your provider will assess your skin at consultation.
How many BBL treatments do I need?
For most pigment and vascular concerns, 2–3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart produces excellent results. For the Forever Young BBL anti-aging protocol, 2–4 treatments per year is the standard maintenance schedule.
